Charting the Life Course Presentation
We invite you to join us for an in-person only event on November 14th from 6:30pm to 8pm at the Beaver County YMCA.
Life is all about transitions. Join Achieva employees Jack Butler, Director of Person-Centered Planning and Melissa Skiffen, Disability and Family Support Advocate as they share how to apply the Charting the Lifecourse framework and tools to transitions throughout the life stages. Charting the Lifecourse is a framework that helps all people identify their vision of a good life. We look forward to exploring Charting the Lifecourse with you!

Presenter Bios:
Jack Butler Director, Person-Centered Supports
Jack has worked at Achieva for 30 years providing a continuum of services including Direct care, Human Resources, facilitating training, and engagement in person-centered thinking, planning, and action. He is an Ambassador of Charting the Lifecourse framework and a University of Delaware Leadership Graduate and speaker.
Jack lives in Ligonier PA near Idlewild park where he enjoys all things outdoors. He is a certified Interior FireFighter, Father of one Daughter (Bella), and husband to wife (Monica). I am a competitive powerlifter and coach and enjoy challenges. I continue to grow and learn from advocates and friends to overcome my own personal challenges. I have an Associate’s in Applied Science and BA in Psychology.
One of my most recent achievements was receiving the Charting the LifeCourse Champion of Person-Centered Practice National Award.
Melissa Skiffen, Arc of Greater Pittsburgh/Achieva Disability and Family Support Advocate
Melissa is the parent of a middle schooler in western Pennsylvania. Her son has Down syndrome and autism and is a valued student at his school and a valued member of his community. She is a lover of books and enjoys reading non-fiction. Melissa and her family enjoy day trips and exploring all parts of the beautiful state of Pennsylvania. Melissa loves all animals, but especially her cats and chickens.
Professionally, Melissa has worked at Achieva for six years as a Disability and Family Support Advocate. She is a Charting the Lifecourse Ambassador and Co-Authored an article in the Office of Developmental Programs (ODP) Positive Approaches Journal on Person-Centered Planning and Trauma-Informed Approach. She is an advisory board member for Temple University’s Families Reimagining Inclusive Lives Project and a member of the Westmoreland County Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities Services Advisory Board. She is the Co-Chair for the Local Right to Education Task Force 7 in Westmoreland County. Melissa has a passion for supporting people with disabilities, families, and the community to ensure that all people are empowered and supported to live the life they envision for themselves.
